Bruce Aubrey Reeves 

CBE, DSC, MID, SB of St J, JSM, ADK, FRICS, MISA

Bruce Reeves is the brother of Malcolm Reeves (Alice Blunden's husband).

Bruce was born in Ambala, India, on Dec 26 1914. He was educated at Nelson College, and registered by the NZ Surveyors Board in 1939.

In 1939 he joined the service of Rajah Brooke in Sarawak as a Surveyor, until the Japanese invasion in 1941 when he escaped the Japanese with the help of his Dayak friends.

Bruce then joined the Royal Australian Navy and served as a Commissioned Officer from 1942-1946, and in 1945 was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. The photo shows Bruce with his World War II decorations.

Bruce married Margaret Glennis Smart in Adelaide in 1946, and had 3 children, Marion (born Kuching, October 1947), Elizabeth (born NZ, 1949), and Margaret Anne (born Sabah, 1958).

Bruce retired as Director of Combined Lands and Survey Dept in Sabah in 1966, and moved to a 43 acre farm at Cherry Gardens in South Australia.
